  • Ensure that each student stays on task and submits assignments when due.
  • Ensure that each student makes satisfactory educational progress in coursework as determined by the supervising teacher.
  • Ensure that each student submits work samples by the due date, when requested.
  • Attend scheduled meetings with teachers during regular school hours.
  • Support each student with organization and accessing needed materials.
  • Work in partnership with each student's teacher(s) to support each student's academic success.
  • Make each student available to attend and participate in state-mandated testing.
Attendance Policies
  • Walnutwood High School will abide by all attendance laws and FCUSD board policies (EC 46014, 48205; BP 6154; AR 5113)
  • Daily attendance is calculated through a student's assigned meetings with their teachers and the completion of daily assignments that support appropriate progress through the curriculum.
  • Students that do not attend their scheduled meeting with the teacher will be marked as "meeting absent" (MTGABS).
WHS Independent Study Agreement 2024-2025
  • ADA Work Completion attendance can be made up with the completion of the assigned lessons in the online curriculum and platforms.
  • Students that fail to submit their assignments by the due date will be marked as absent in ADA Work Completion (IW). This is equivalent to not attending school at a traditional site.
  • Attendance will not be counted on weekends, holidays, or other non-school days. However, lessons can be completed at any time.
  • At the end of each learning period, the teacher evaluates the work or work products completed by the student and determines appropriate attendance credit for the learning period. Students must complete all assigned work to receive 5 days' worth of positive attendance.  Anything less results in days for which the student is marked absent for ADA Work Completion (IW). Parents and students should contact their teacher(s) with specific questions regarding which assignments are to be completed for each learning period.
  • Procedures for tiered reengagement strategies will be put into place for all pupils who are not generating attendance for more than 10% of required minimum instructional time over four continuous weeks, or are found not participating in synchronous instruction for more than 50% of the scheduled times, or if pupils are in violation of the written agreement. If unsatisfactory educational progress continues to be made, an educational conference will take place to determine if an independent study program is an appropriate placement for the student.
  • No more than 10 missed days per semester for any reason will be allowed before an evaluation is conducted to determine whether it is in the best interest of the student to continue in the program. A probationary period requiring a weekly meeting may be set up with dismissal from the program as the consequence of any further missed days.
  • All participants in Walnutwood High School do so on a voluntary basis. Students remain eligible to return to the traditional classroom in the district in which he/she resides should this placement be deemed inappropriate. Students may not be concurrently enrolled in another public or private school that takes attendance for the purpose of California's Average Daily Attendance funding.
  • There are no excused absences.
  • Domestic and international travel do not excuse failure to abide by the enrollment requirements.

After orientation, the parent/guardian and student will sign the independent S
tudy Agreement (ISA),  stating the parent/guardian and student agrees to all of the conditions set forth, and you further understand that failure to meet any one or more of the policies or expectations means that this educational model may not be an appropriate placement for my student and Walnutwood may terminate his/her enrollment.
